Do Nothing on Occasion

Make time to do nothing.

Nothing Could Be Something

Sometimes we get our best ideas by doing nothing.  Our subconscious minds have a process for recalling something we read or observed and mixing that with things we value or dream about, as with a goal for the future, to bring a passing thought to mind when we have our brains on idle.

Even if we have no revelation during our idle time, our brains do need a rest on occasion.  At least a distraction, such as fishing or some other sport, can help our minds to relax.  Even window shopping can be relaxing for our minds.

But Be Concerned

Doing nothing, allowing our minds to wander, can be a concern.

Are you not paying attention to things that need to be done?  Perhaps there is a bill due, and you are not paying it on time.  Is there some maintenance that needs to be done on your house, your car, or your yard?

Are you running away from necessary financial decisions?  Do you even know what that decision might be?  I know that I often must remind myself to look at my finances every month.

When things are going well, the reminder is a pleasant experience.  When times are hard, the reminder sounds like thunder in a dreadful storm!

My hope is to help you build a better mindset for money and make your monthly money decisions a pleasant experience.

Make Your Nothing Count

In the book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill refers to an inventor he met who would make the time to “sit for ideas”.  That involved sitting in a quiet, darkened room with nothing but a pencil and paper.  He would do nothing.  He let his mind do the work, using all the reading and research he had done before for internal analysis to generate ideas that could eventually become new inventions, new business concepts, or more food for thought and research.

That is evidence that you can do more with your mind than you normally allow.  If you give your mind food for thought by reading, study, listening to others, you could reap the crop of ideas your mind is willing to produce!

William James, the psychologist, was quoted as saying we utilize a very small percentage of our mental capacity.  How much do you utilize?

Perhaps you should consider your real potential beyond what others tell you or what you may have experienced.

Observation, Revelation, and Inspiration

Sometimes our view of the world is limited by where we live and how much we can move around.

Our parents were concerned about our seeing the effects of poverty and the danger of desperation and limited our travel to those parts of town.  However, if you already live there, you are getting first-hand experience that may not take you to where you want to go.  Unless you make some changes.

Hopefully, you can expand your observations about life and making a living through observing successful people, researching books on success practices, or learning from the mistakes people make in how they make decisions and the results they experience.

The revelation you might experience will come from observing those who learned to do what they needed to do and those who refused to acknowledge there were things to be done.

Your revelation might come from how simple life can be, especially with financial matters:

  1. Live on less than you make.
  2. Be regular about saving.
  3. Learn how to invest from those who know how to invest.
  4. Make efforts to grow your ability to earn.
  5. Live simple and consistent to keep debt low and accumulation constantly growing.

The inspiration of seeing how simple actions can grow to big results will keep you making bigger goals to grow your potential, to become a better you.  Your motivation will become an inspiration to your family and friends.

Imagine How Nothing Could Become Something

Imagination is something we often limit ourselves using.  Imagination, to most people, means being creative.  Most of us do not think of ourselves as being creative.

But being creative is not just producing a work of art.  Being creative will help us design a better life for ourselves.

Imagination, being creative, comes from doing nothing while our minds chew on the fuel for thought that we fed it!

When you do nothing to feed your mind, you will starve for ideas to make your life go better.

I want you to learn how important your mind is.  Feed it well!

How Will You Plan Your Nothing?

A good place to do nothing is in the library.  You can almost soak up knowledge just sitting in a library!

I ask you to try sitting in a library and notice the books on the shelves, the titles and author names.  What did they write about?  Do they make you curious?  If not, you should go home and wash the dishes.  There will always be a need for someone to do that.

However, if you want a better future with more options, including earning options, then, I challenge you to make use of the library.  There is a world of knowledge at your fingertips!

I know you have Alexis, YouTube, Siri, and Google to ask questions of.  But your questions are limited by what you know to ask.  Walking around in a library and observing titles and categories of knowledge will raise many, many more questions to ask of the internet!

Whatever your plans are for your future, you will get there faster, with greater odds of success, if you make time to feed your mind.

Keep your mind healthy.  Feed it what it needs to give you a bountiful crop of ideas!
